This is how you can determine if your A/C is cooling down your house efficiently
Posted byNordic Home Inspection
Does your A/C system cool down your house efficiently? This is a very simple and fairly accurate method to figure that out.
1. Make a note of your current indoor temperature
2. Turn on your A/C system and put a thermometer at a supply vent and let the A/C run for 5-10 minutes.
The temperature of the air coming out of your supply vent should be between 14-22F cooler than your current indoor temperature.
The temperature of the air coming out of your supply vent should be between 14-22F cooler than your current indoor temperature (Some say between 15-20F).
HOW TO UNDERSTAND THE RESULTS
Differential is within the recommended range
If the differential is within the recommended range your system appears to be running properly.
Differential is below the recommended range
If the differential is below the recommended range your system is not operating properly which will increase the cost of cooling your house.
Servicing the A/C system may be necessary.
Differential is above the recommended range
If the differential is above the recommended range it could indicate that the furnace filter is dirty or that the system is improperly sized.
During our inspection, we will use a professional-grade moisture meter to detect potential leaks or water intrusion. We will scan any areas of concern, and, when appropriate, test the floor along the foundation in below-grade spaces.
Mold Visual Inspection
With extensive expertise in mold—including the conditions in which it thrives and where it commonly appears—we recognize how significantly mold can affect a family’s health. During our inspections, we prioritize identifying any visible mold and documenting those findings in our reports. This approach sets us apart from much of the industry, where home inspectors typically follow Standards of Practice that do not mandate formal mold identification.
On-site Client Consultation
After completing the inspection, we will take the time to review our findings with you in detail, guiding you through the report on a tablet. During this consultation, we will address any questions you may have. Our goal is to ensure you fully understand the home’s condition by the end of our discussion.
